UCSD Spanos
A new training center for the UCSD Tritons bookends an open air exercise courtyard connected to an existing building. Sturdy Tilt-up concrete walls enclose well day lit strength and conditioning area. Playful shadows from the concrete reliefs on the facade, rhythmic placement of the windows and the articulated sloped roof suggest the kinetic character of the facility. A bio-swale nicknamed “The Moat” collects the rain delivered through open-face downspouts, from which the movement of water can be observed. Large overhead doors connect the courtyard to the training center and provide fresh air ventilation.
